Description and notes
A wonderfully aesthetic amazonite specimen from the famed Tree Root Pocket on the Two Point Claim in western Teller County, Colorado (very close to the Park County border). This particular find produced some truly iconic specimens of this beloved blue-green variety of microcline, for which Colorado is famous. This Pikes Peak Batholith is world-famous for the quality and quantity of top-tier amazonite it has produced over the years, and the wonderful associations (particularly of smoky quartz) creating dazzling combos that are not only colorful, but celebrated among mineral collectors. This piece is a showy full cabinet-sized display specimen hosting several incredibly well-formed, sharp, blocky, beautiful blue-green colored crystals of amazonite measuring up to 4.6 cm long, which are accenting by a few lustrous, gemmy, prismatic dark smoky quartz crystals up to 2.7 cm. Like the vast majority of these multi-crystal specimens, this piece has been repaired, it's just the nature of the material. No damage I can find on the display side, and the saturation and consistency of the color, along with the excellent three-dimensional form of the piece makes for a really striking and visceral example of these important and classic amazonites. The piece comes with a free custom acrylic display base. TP85
