Description and notes
The famous Berg Aukas mine of Namibia has produced the worlds finest descloizite specimens and this is an outstanding, two-sided specimen. Brilliant-luster, jet-black, striated, tapered, axe head crystals are aesthetically set on the matrix. The isolated crystal on the right is 1.0 cm. Tiny, gemmy, brown crystals are also scattered on the front. The backside hosts a spectacular swirl of curved descloizite crystals. The front has only a tiny bit of bruising. Scattered bruising is noted on the back, but is a modest detraction. Superb older material from the Howard Belsky Collection. A pre-1982 specimen, with the Southwest Africa label. The mine closed in 1978. We have a tendency to dismiss this species as second rate but this piece, it is a superb example, and striking in person enough to fit any collection of higher end pieces!
