Description and notes
A beautiful specimen from the more contemporary mining at Panasqueira featuring a predominant, sharp, thick, tabular, green color zones, translucent hexagonal crystal of fluorapatite measuring 3.1 cm across, associated with additional fluorapatite crystals of equal quality and color plus excellent tan colored compressed rhombic crystals of siderite along with a few gem quality, colorless quartz prisms, and no matrix. These green apatites are arguably the most recognized examples from this locality, and they are without question singular in their appearance, as there really isn't anywhere else where apatite like this has been found. I can't find any major damage anywhere on this specimen, maybe a few superficial points of roughness, but the piece is in prime condition all around. The piece shows fairly good fluorescence under UV light as well. A showy, fine quality and just plain pretty display specimen of what are some of the most famous apatites from anywhere.
